Pincourt firefighters’ generosity perched high

Corner of Traversier and Cardinal-Léger Blvds, Pincourt. A firefighter stands at the top of the ladder of the fire truck. Curious drivers slow down or stop their cars. And yet, no fire anywhere. Or rather, yes, there is a fire: generosity is on fire! The firefighter perching at the top is one of the heroes of the Pincourt firefighters’ Échelle-O-Thon, a community event benefiting the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence Foundation whose 10th edition will be held on Saturday, November 23, at the corner of Traversier and Cardinal-Léger Blvds in Pincourt.

In 2008, the fundraiser had collected $8,500 for the Residence thanks to the generous drivers who stopped near the fire trucks where some twenty firefighters took turns at the top of the ladder.

Pincourt firefighters’ channeled their generosity to support Opération Enfant Soleil for some time, explained one of the event’s organizers, Luc Jollet, president of the Pincourt Firefighters Association. “The team wondered one day, why not hold this activity for a cause in our region? They chose the Residence as the father of one of its members had stayed there.”

Jollet was also touched by the Residence’s mission when his father-in-law spent his last days there. For him, organizing the Échelle-O-Thon to contribute to its operations was self-evident, even if his team received support requests from other non-profit organizations.

“We will all need the Residence’s care and services in the end, he added. We made it our mission to continue.”

Since its first edition, with nearly $60,000 collected, the generosity of Pincourt’s firefighters and of all the donors who took part in the event continues to shine brightly… for the well-being of the Residence’s patients and their families.
