No gala but…

The sparkle in the eyes, the excitement of celebrating together with all those who, just like you, hold the Palliative Care Residence’s mission close to their hearts…

This is the exhilarating ambiance of the Residence’s Happening gala, of which the pandemic robs us in January 2021.

Well, not completely. Because we want to recreate this singular joy with you during a “pandemic-friendly” Happening, next April. We have not yet set the date or confirmed the specific shape the event will take, but it will definitely be virtual.

The Residence would be deprived of a considerable source of funding if its annual gala were not held at all. We will need your help to make the 2021 Happening not only an extraordinary celebration, but a decidedly memorable one above all.

As our project becomes clearer, we will be in touch again.

After all, generosity sparkles everywhere we let it shine.

Gala Happening 2020

A year of 10th anniversary celebrations kicks off with immense generosity and magical moments!

The Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence’s Happening Gala held on January 25th at Château Vaudreuil’s Pavillon sur le Lac was a resounding success—not to mention delightful, incredible, magical—and so much more! The room was filled with joy as people came together to celebrate a Residence where earth angels and their incredible spirit bring kindness and well-being to the patients living out their final days within its walls.

A little over 400 guests gathered to celebrate the first event marking the 10th anniversary of the Residence, which opened in September 2010. Acting as honorary presidents for the evening were Patricia Ann Beaulieu, Regional Executive Director for Néomédia and Bernard Séguin Poirier, a regional artist who needs no introduction.

After calculating expenses, a total of $234,000 was collected as part of this special evening ($405,000 before expenses) including $19,800 generated from the highest bidders at the live auction held during the event. A Paul McCartney-autographed guitar, a package featuring a helicopter ride, dinner and one night’s accommodation (including breakfast) at Pourvoirie du Lac Blanc in the Mauricie region as well as an original work of art by Bernard Séguin Poirier were all up for auction and easily found takers who were eager to snatch them up. Other guests let themselves be tempted by the beautiful items featured as part of the silent auction—namely, star athlete jerseys, jewelry, a unique and customized knife as well as other items and packages.

Art enthusiasts were in heaven as they bid on the magnificent works by Bernard Séguin Poirier, displayed in the lobby at Pavillon sur le Lac. To spotlight this very special 10th anniversary, Ms. Anne Lauzon, Chairperson of the Residence’s Board of

Guests hung on Mr. Sylvain Castonguay every word as he spoke from the heart about his mother, who passed away at the Residence a few weeks before the event, emphasizing the incredible quality of care she received as well as the amazing support provided to his family members.

After a warm round of applause, the room once again fell silent as the audience viewed a video presentation of a patient who shared his story and the feeling of well-being and serenity that he, as well as his spouse and children, experienced at the Residence.

These two personal stories touched the hearts of those present and clearly had a profound effect on the 82 guests who enthusiastically stood up, agreeing to become Ambassadors of the Residence by pledging to donate $1,000 each, thereby breaking the record for the number of Ambassadors who joined the ranks.

The ever-talented singer and musician Gregory Charles played a big part in making this evening so magical, with his sense of humour, charm and ability to get women (and men!) of all ages onto the dance floor.

Guests felt their hearts burst with joy as fireworks lit up the night sky on either side of the dining room at Pavillon sur le Lac in celebration of the 10th anniversary.

To wrap things up, three women, one man and a young girl made their way to the stage to show off the outfits that got them voted best dressed in the Happening’s evening wear contest. Judges were Ms. Suzanne Chénard, wife of Mr. Bernard Séguin Poirier and Ms. France Bertrand, wife of Mr. Jean St-Pierre, President of Services de rebuts Soulanges Inc, who presented the contest.

The Happening is the result of a collective effort that relies on the support of valuable partners and sponsors. The Foundation would like to thank them for their unwavering support.
