Building Maintenance Operations Manager

The Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Center's mission is to provide palliative care to terminally ill people of all ages in order to promote an end of life with dignity and serenity. Located in a peaceful environment, the House has twelve perfectly equipped individual rooms. We offer professional care focused on comprehensive support for sick people, their family members and loved ones.

Job Summary

In addition to carrying out light and heavy housekeeping and general maintenance work at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence, both in and around the main building, ensure the proper functioning of equipment for patients and families, staff and volunteers. The incumbent has direct supervision of one full-time maintenance worker and approximately 5 volunteers.

The main responsibility is to ensure general and preventive maintenance and carry out repairs as required.  May have to respond to emergencies (safety issue) during and after regular working hours.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:  

​

Housekeeping of the building (50%)

  • Perform, in collaboration with the team, room disinfection tasks in preparation for admissions. Must also be able to perform housekeeping as required.

  • Perform various minor repairs, carpentry work or painting to ensure cleanliness and good condition of the equipment.  These tasks are done alone or with other people.

  • Participate in the handling and transportation of goods, furniture and other materials.

  • Ensure that building cleanliness standards are maintained at the highest level.

  • Regularly inspect premises, facilities and equipment to determine if preventive maintenance or repair is required. Maintain the inspection log and ensure the necessary follow-ups. Also ensure that inspections cover key sites and equipment under the Fire Safety and Emergency Measures Program.

  • Keep a log of maintenance work performed.

  • Renew evaluation certificates twice a year by contacting various suppliers (sprinklers, alarm system, etc.)

  • Solicit bids from various suppliers for current projects, in collaboration with the Administrative Assistant, and report on bids received to the Director, Human Resources, Operations and Volunteers.

Team and project management (50%)

  • Ensure a high level of collaboration among team members.

  • Plan and assign tasks between staff and volunteer team members.

  • Research the best products/services in order to provide the best advice to management.

  • Contribute to the maintenance and use of emergency response equipment.

  • Coordinate the work of the team and subcontractors and act as a point of contact when there are suppliers on site.

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards, making safe use of equipment, identifying unsafe practices and conditions, reporting them to management and making the necessary corrections.

  • Inform management of any problematic or at-risk situations.

REQUIRED PROFILE AND REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Hold a vocational training diploma (DEP - diplôme d’étude professionnel) or a college degree (DEC), depending on experience;

  • 5 years experience in housekeeping and building maintenance;

  • Knowledge of medical disinfection protocol is considered an asset;

  • Working knowledge of spoken French and English as well as written French;

  • Autonomy, sense of responsibility and organization;

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with the public;

  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position;

  • Outlook, Word and Excel.

  • Salary $24.94 to $29.77 per hour;
